Teaching Philosophy Statement
Classical music is a living tradition, and I approach musical styles as living languages in which students can become fluent. This requires not merely abstract analysis, but listening, writing, and improvising. I practice an integrated approach to these disciplines; students internalize harmony and voice leading patterns at the keyboard. My goal is to help students achieve a fluency of technique and expression in whichever styles they choose. Discussion of students’ work is complemented by directed score study.
